Farmed fish

Fifty percent of all produced fish comes from aquaculture farms - the fastest growing food production system in the world. We believe aquaculture offers an ideal and responsible solution to the growing demand for sustainable seafood products.The majority of farmed fish comes from Asia. Due to Asia's tropical climate aquaculture species such as Tilapia and Pangasius are farmed in a natural manner without wasting valuable energy. The farmed fish is given a plant-based diet and requires relatively little food to grow.

The worlds most important farming standard are ASC, BAP and Global G.A.P. Blue Planet farmed fish has been produced on a Global G.A.P., BAP or ASC certified aquaculture farm. This means the product comes from a sustainable source that has been subject to inspection.

The Blue Planet requirements for farmed fish are:

  • The fish must come from producer which has its own, independently certified farm site;
  • Producer must comply to the highest quality requirments;
  • Production is exclusively at certified processing plants with established traceability;
  • Quality controllers are employed to inspect and supervise production and to draw up quality reports. These controllers also ensure the end product is always analysed at accredited laboratories.
