Fish is healthy. Scientists really agree on this. Fish is delicious, easy to digest and simple and quick to prepare. And extensive medical research has shown that eating fish can improve people’s health and fitness quite considerably. Fish is rich in Omega-3 and 6 fish fatty acids, high-quality proteins, vitamins and minerals. Fish fatty acids reduce the triglyceride levels in the blood and prevent the coagulation of thrombocytes. Above all, Omega-3 fatty acids have a positive influence on the heart rhythm and reduce the chance of a heart attack. The human body is not able to manufacture Omega-3 and Omega-6 fats itself. The conclusion is therefore justified that, if people want to remain fit and in good health, fish must be part of their varied and balanced diet.
The Health Council of the Netherlands advises the consumption of fish at least twice a week, of which once should be an oily fish. For more information, please refer to the Nederlands Visbureau (Dutch Fish Agency) and the beautiful fish book: over Vis&Vis.
